Hazel Langan

BA (Hons), LLB, DipLP, NP

Partner

I joined McLean & Stewart in 2007 as a Trainee and progressed to become a Partner five years later. With dual degrees in business and law, along with certifications in Risk Management and Governance and Anti-Money Laundering from the Law Society of Scotland, I bring a well-rounded perspective to the strategic and operational management of the firm. Collaborating closely with my fellow Partner, Gemma Baillie, I am committed to ensuring the efficient and compliant running of McLean & Stewart.

I have a wide range of legal knowledge and focus on elderly client and estate work. With a pragmatic yet sensitive approach, I tailor my advice for each client ensuring that I focus on what matters to you the most. I regularly advise clients on Wills, Powers of Attorney, Guardianship Orders, Confirmation applications, and Inheritance Tax (IHT) Planning. Additionally, I have experience in property transactions and also advise clients on residential and conveyancing matters.

I have a close professional tie with the Strathcarron Hospice in Falkirk and work closely with them on a pro-bono basis to ensure their patients have their legal matters in order.  I was even lucky enough to meet Princess Anne through my work at the Hospice!  I pride myself on being an empathetic and trustworthy lawyer, and I am passionate about bringing comfort to people who are nearing their end of life, and ensuring they have their affairs in order.

I am married with two sons and enjoy nothing more than spending time together with my family.

Partner

I joined McLean & Stewart in 2008 as a Trainee and now lead the Partnership alongside Hazel Langan, driving the firm’s strategic direction.  Recognised for excellence and leadership in my field, I was awarded the “Achievements in Law” title at the 2023 Scottish Women’s Awards and named Modern Law Firm Businesswoman of the Year 2024 (Scotland).  I am also a former member of the Law Society’s Professional Practice Subcommittee.

I advise individuals and businesses on a range of legal matters, with extensive experience in agricultural and rural law. I specialise in future planning, including Wills, Powers of Attorney, and Trusts, helping clients protect their families and assets during challenging times.  My approachable style ensures clients feel at ease with me and my team.

I am proud to serve as a Trustee for the Sophie North Charitable Trust, honouring the memory of Sophie North, one of the 16 children who tragically lost their life at Dunblane Primary School, along with their teacher, in March 1996. The Sophie North Charitable Trust raises money for children’s diseases, hospices, breast cancer, care of the terminally ill and charities involved with conflict resolution. I am also Company Secretary for the Dunblane Centre, a community space created as a legacy to those lost in the Dunblane tragedy (www.dunblanecentre.co.uk).  Additionally, I provide pro bono advice to startups through STEP, Central Scotland’s business support organisation (www.stepscotland.co.uk).

Outside of work, I stay busy with my children, Shaun and Amelie, and enjoy Irish dancing, exploring Scottish nature, and traveling. Recently, I began learning British Sign Language (BSL) to foster inclusivity through language.  It is a stimulating experience, filled with challenges and rewards.
